Hi Bev! It will be fine at room temperature, unless of course that room is really warm. 🙂

can the frosting be at room temperature once the cake is frosted, or will it ‘melt’?

Wow! I hate making frosting but also hate paying a lot of money for premade frosting with lots of artificial ingredients and corn syrup.

I made this today and it was easy and turned out great. I used it to frost brownies and cupcakes. Everyone loved it! Thanks for posting my new go-to frosting recipe!

Hi Bee! Buttercream is not supposed to be grainy. That being said, this one is not grainy. 🙂

Hi Tam! It’s important that the chocolate not be warm to the touch but that it still be fluid, it sounds like you are just cooling the chocolate a bit too long. I hope that helps!

This is not for me. I think the idea is great but if you cool the chocolate that was once hard, it’s going to harden… so no. I wasted 2 sticks of butter and 6 ounces of chocolate… threw it all in the trash.

Hi Elisabeth! I’m glad you ultimately enjoyed it! Did you use salted butter by chance? If so you would need to reduce the salt to keep it from being too salty. 🙂

I would modify to 1/8th tsp or even a pinch!

This frosting was amazing! I substituted almond extract for the vanilla and used it on chocolate cake that I used almond extract in too. Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. Definitely a keeper!

Hi Ann! I can’t say for sure. You’ll just have to experiment with it.

Obsessed with this, I would put this on anything. I used it on a cookies and cream cake and I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you!!

I went straight to your page to look for chocolate frosting. I love your cream cheese frosting! Your chocolate frosting did not disappoint. I love this one too. I recommend this frosting. It is absolutely delicious!

Hmmm that’s odd. Was your chocolate too warm after melting it? This is the most likely culprit if there were no substitutions. 🙁

I made this exactly as the recipe stated. It came out runny and unstable. It was super delicious though, but I was not able to pipe with it.

it was delicious but I’m pretty sure I let the chocolate cool down too much. it started to solidify when I added it to the butter and it came out like chocolate chip icing. also my house is a little cold today, about 60, so that could be why. going to try again adding warmer chocolate.

Do you mean cocoa powder? You could experiment with adding some and see how you like it 🙂
