Hi Rita! I just took a look and it looks like vanilla slice is a very thick pastry cream. Unless you freeze this it might not work. 🙁

Thanks in advance

Is it possible to add chocolate to make a chocolate cream puff? If so, how much and what step? Would you use semi sweet baking chips? I made this recipe for Christmas and it was an absolute hit!

Hi Jill! It’s slightly thicker than a pudding consistency, so you would need a dam and it would need to be kept cold. I have used it for a Boston cream pie. 🙂

Hi Donna! If you are making my eclairs it will make enough to fill 14. 🙂

Can I fold in some whipped cream to this pastry cream and used it on a fruit tart?

This is absolutely delicious, easy to make, and turned out absolutely perfect!! I’ve never made pastry crème because tempering eggs sounded so fussy, but this recipe is really no harder than making box pudding, and 1000% better! Thanks for a great recipe.

Hi Jean! You could use almond extract instead of vanilla, but you’ll want to use significantly less as it’s much more potent. 🙂

Hi Selina! This does come out to be a bit on the yellow side so tinting it blue may prove to be a challenge.

I’m making your bottom creme cupcake but decorating the top for star wars day. I’d like to tint the pastry cream blue like the milk Luke drinks for dramatic effect!
Thanks for your recipes! My coworkers love my baking, and I have YOU to thank for it!

Hi Alice! I think it could work, your pastry cream will just be a bit thicker.

Would it be ok to use all heavy whipping cream instead of half cream and half milk?
Thank you,
Alice
