I’ll never use another. This makes such a delicious crust that every time I make it for company or family all they can talk about is that!! I’ve always used active dry yeast, mixed as directed, and always is successful. I use a pizza stone, preheated it makes a nice crispy bottom even with regular unbleached flour. Thank you for this recipe!! I’ll always be a dedicated follower.

Thanks for the recipe Sam! For a crisp crust: I pre-bake the crust on a perforated pan for 9 minutes, then add toppings, then bake another ~9 minutes to melt cheese, etc. During final 2 minutes, I slide the pizza off the pan directly onto the lowest rack to get a crispy crust. Foil on bottom of oven to protect from any drippings.

You can make breadsticks, calzones, etc. this is a staple in our home, and it’s been made while having a few drinks with friends! It’s a crowd pleaser for sure. I proof my yeast first (active dry) with 3/4 cup warm water and the sugar.

I’ve been trying to make a good pizza dough for many years. Your recipe is nearly identical to many I’ve tried with the exception of putting olive oil on the dough prior to putting toppings on.

My pizzas generally turn out acceptable except for the fact they, for lack of a better term, taste yeasty. They NEVER taste anything like a Papa John’s or Domino’s pizza – my favorites. They are doing something I’m not and it’s so frustrating.

I’m hoping the olive oil on the dough is the magic ingredient / method that removes the yeasty taste.

Any other ideas?

Hi Catherine, did you try making this with 00 flour yet? just curious as I have some as well but it’s much pricer than regular/bread flour so I haven’t dared yet. We’re trying the bread flour tonight for the first time in a new pizza oven, so will see how it goes. Fingers crossed!
